The Bavarian Crochet Stitch creates a stunning, intricate design often used for blankets, cushions, and decorative projects. Its layered, diamond-like appearance makes it a favorite for adding texture and elegance to any project.

Instructions (U.S. Terminology)

  1. Special Stitches: Cluster - This is primarily made up of treble clusters. A treble cluster is 4 treble together in 1 stitch. Like a usual treble,* yarn over twice, insert your hook into the stitch, pull up a loop, yarn over, pull through 2 loops on the hook, yarn over pull through 2 loops on the hook, this time do not finish the stitch, you know have 2 loops left on your hook*, repeat this 3 more times. You will end up with 5 loops on the hook, yarn over and pull through all the loops on the hook. This will be known as cl (cluster)
  2. Foundation Row: Make a magic ring.
  3. Rnd 1: *ch5, cl into the mr, ch5, sc1 into the magic ring*. Rep from * to * 3 more times.
  4. Rnd 2: ; (You will be working into 1st ch after the cluster on the last round.) *(tr4, ch1, tr4. Ch1, tr4) into the same space, sc1 into the sc on the prev round.* rep * to * 3 more times. Cut the yarn and change colour, rejoin yarn in the ch1 space after the first set of 4 tr.
  5. Rnd 3: sc1 in the same space as the rejoined yarn, *ch5, tr4 cl bp of the next 4 tr from the prev round, ch5 sc1 in the sc of the prv round. Next we will work into the side space, this looks like a v. now we will make a tr8 cluster bp over the next 4 from 1 side of the v and 4 from the other side. Sc1 in sc from prv round* rep from * to * 3 more times.
  6. Rnd 4: (again will be working into 1st ch after the cluster on the last round.) *(tr4, ch1, tr4. Ch1, tr4) into the same space, sc1 into the sc on the prev round.(these sets of tr4, ch1, tr4, ch1, tr4 make up the corners) now working along the side, (tr4, ch1, tr4) into the same space at the top of the tr8 cluster in the prev round, sc1 into the sc on the prev round.* rep from * to * 3 more times
  7. Pattern Repeat: Rep rounds are 3-4 cutting and rejoining the yarn as you go. The corners will always remain the same but your sides will get longer. You will just be making for sets of tr8 clusters and( tr4, ch1, tr4) in the appropriate rounds.
