Basic granny square

This is a basic granny square. I have used Dk Yarn and a 4mm hook, however you can use any size yarn with the corresponding hook size

Granny Square Stitch Chart

  1. Abbreviations: Stitch(es)-st(s), slip stitch(s)-sl st(s), chain(s)-ch(s), double crochets(s)-dc(s).
  2. Granny Square type Basic Granny square
  3. Foundation Chain Ch 4, ss in fourth ch from the hook
  4. Rnd 1: Ch 3 (counts as dc here and throughout), into ring work 2 dc, ch 3, *3 dc, ch 3; repeat from * twice more. Join with ss into top of ch-3 [12 dc, 4 ch-3]
  5. Rnd 2: Ch 4 (counts as dc plus ch-1 here and throughout) skip 3 sts and work (3 dc, ch 3, 3 dc) into ch-3 space from previous row. *Ch 1, skip 3 sts, (3 dc, ch 3, 3 dc) in ch-3 space; repeat from * once more. Ch 1, skip 3 sts, (3dc, ch3, 2dc) in ch-3 space. Join with a ss into ch-3 from beginning of the round. [24 dc, 4 ch-3, 4 ch-1]
  6. Rnd 3: Ch 3, 2 dc in ch-1 sp, ch1. *skip 3 sts, (3 dc, ch 3, 3 dc) into corner space. Ch 1, skip 3 sts, 3 dc in ch-1 space, ch 1; repeat from * twice more. (3 dc, ch 3, 3 dc) into corner space. Ch 1 and join with ss in third ch of beginning ch-4. [36 dc, 4 ch-3, 8 ch-1]
  7. Rnd 4: Ch 4, skip 3 sts, 3 dc in ch-1 sp, *ch 1, skip 3 sts (3 dc, ch 3, 3 dc) in corner sp, (ch 1, skip 3 sts, 3 dc in ch-1 sp) twice; repeat from * twice more, (3 dc, ch 3, 3 dc) in last corner space, ch 1, skip 3 sts, 2 dc in ch-1 sp, join with ss in third ch of beginning ch-4.
